A film adaptation of one of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s most popular novels. The action takes place in Rome during the reign of Nero. His nephew, Marcus Vinicius, a legionary officer, arrives at the home of Petronius, an aesthete and art connoisseur. The young Roman confides in his uncle that he has fallen in love with the beautiful, mysterious Lygia, a girl he met in the home of the old general, Aulus Plautius.
