27th October is a #worldaudiovisualheritageday by @unesco, and by a chance today we’re finishing one of our latest restoration projects. Our studio has done restoration of „Crime and Punishment” (2000) by Piotr Dumała. From now on, the film which was lacking digital copies in good quality, could be discovered by the new audiences. The sound restoration was done by SSD Studio.
The film was produced by Bow & Axe Entertainment, and the project is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

"The Herd" by Monika Kotecka and Karolina Poryzała, which was postproduced in our studio, has won the Audience Award at 37th @warsawiff in the documentary films category. 🏆😀

Monika Kotecka summarizes the experience: Working on “The Herd” was a lesson of patience. The film was made many years, the first part of the shooting was possible thanks to our friends who lend us the equipment. It was different cameras, different formats… Our priority was to stay close to our characters and to capture relations between the girls. When we finished editing, it occurred that the postproduction is a big challenge, and this time it demanded patience from Fixafilm’s team. The colour correction made the footage coherent but adding the grain was crucial. Łukasz Ceranka’s immense experience and his sensitive eye were invaluable in this process. Thanks to proper grain management we’ve managed to achieve a noble and film look.

The programme of the @americanfilmfestival has been announced today and two films that our studio worked on, will be screened in Wroclaw in November. "Ludi" by Edson Jean competes in the Spectrum section and "Prisoners of the Ghostland" by Sion Sono, which was postproduced by our LA branch, will be presented at the Special Screening.

Again this year we're going to support the US in Progress, an industry section of the festival.

The first Polish screening of EUROPA (1931) by Stefan and Franciszka Themerson is happening tonight! The film was lost during WW2 and found unexpectedly in @das_bundesarchiv in 2019 by @instytutpileckiego. Restored at our studio, premiered last week at #bfilondonfilmfest and tonight will be presented in Warsaw at @kinoiluzjon.

When restoring pre-war films, we are faced with a fundamental dilemma over why the picture is flawed. We must determine which visible imperfections and defects were caused by the passage of time or the limitations of older technology, and which were intended by the filmmakers. This was particularly complex in the case of an experimental film like Europa. Franciszka and Stefan Themerson used a variety of animation and editing techniques, photograms, and multiple exposures. This vast amount of source material, almost 90 years after its premiere, and working with a 35mm copy that must have been laboratory-processed several times, certainly made things difficult.

Tonight "THE HERD", directed by Monika Kotecka & Karolina Poryzała and produced by Lava Films, premiers at the #WarsawFilmFestival in the Documentary Competition. The film follows the members of the Volteo amateur female equestrian vaulting club, who have to overcome their weaknesses to achieve the joint goal and get a chance to join the Polish national team.
Our studio was responsible for postproduction.

Last night at #BFILondonFilmFestival the premiere of rediscovered and restored #EUROPA by Stefan and Franciszka Themerson took place. Łukasz Ceranka, our CTO, who supervised the restoration of 1931 avant-garde film, participated in the London event. The screening was followed by a lecture from Jasia Reichardt, Themersons' niece and heir.
Believed to be lost during WW2 "EUROPA" was rediscovered in 2019 at Bundesarchiv by @instytutpileckiego. @luxmovingimage is handling the distribution.

Lost, found, and restored! Avant-garde masterpiece EUROPA (1931) by Stefan and Franciszka Themerson premieres today at BFI London Film Festival. Originally believed to have been destroyed by the Nazis, the film was rediscovered by chance in the Bundesarchiv, Berlin, in 2019 by Instytut Pileckiego.
Restored at FIXAFILM under Łukasz Ceranka supervision, will be presented today in public for the first time in 90 years! 🤩
